Established in 1969, Tagore Society for Rural Development (TSRD) has worked for more than five decades to build self-reliant, inclusive and sustainable rural communities.
Inspired by Rabindranath Tagore's vision for rural reconstruction and the ideals of self-reliance and community participation, TSRD works with marginalized communities across West Bengal and Jharkhand through locally rooted development programmes.
Building self-reliant rural communities through participatory development, capacity building and community ownership, with a special focus on creating opportunities for women.
Inclusive rural communities where people can live with dignity, opportunity and self-respect, with greater control over their own development.
TSRD’s project portfolio reflects the diversity of rural communities it serves. Programmes are adapted to local ecological, economic and social conditions while following a shared community-led development framework.

Since 1969, TSRD has worked alongside marginalized rural communities to strengthen livelihoods, build local capacities and create inclusive development opportunities.
Our approach is rooted in community participation, local ownership and long-term sustainability, ensuring that people are not simply beneficiaries of development but active partners in shaping it.
People are at the centre of every programme, actively participating in planning, implementation, monitoring and decision-making.
We build skills, institutions and leadership so local communities can continue driving development beyond individual projects.

Our CSR initiatives focus on creating positive, lasting change through education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, and community development. By addressing real needs and empowering individuals, we strive to improve lives, strengthen communities, and build a better future for all.
